Genus of 2 to 3 species of evergreen shrubs, native to tropicals and subtropical areas of South America.

They grow in sunny and warm sites.
Plant in groups and hedges.
Propagated by cuttings or by seeds that germinate at 18-20 °C (64-68°F) , sown after their fleshy sheath is removed.
No disease problems.
