Amaryllis is a monotypic (only one species) genus, native to South Africa. It is a bulbous plant with large, funnel-shaped flowers, borne in clusters of 4 to 6 in autumn, before the unfolding of the leaves.

Plant bulbs in full sun, at minimum depth, in well-drained soils.
Plant in flowerpots and arrangements.
Propagated by bulblets.
