Rhizomatous, hernaceous perennials with elongated, linear, grass-like leaves and yellow or white, star-shaped flowers, borne in late spring and early summer.
Photophilous (sun-loving) species, with small requirements in water. They do well even in poor, rocky but well drained soils.
Use in rock gardens.
Propagated by division in early spring.
