Berberis is a genus of evergreen and deciduous, spiny shrubs with small leaves. They usually bear yellow flowers in early spring and small, red or black fruits in winter. They take on bright hues in autumn.
Latin name: Berberis valdiviana
They grow in full sun or part shade and do well in all kinds of soil.
Plant in full sun, however, and in fertile, well-drained soils, in order to achieve better foliage colour and richer flowering.
Plant in hedges and in rock gardens. Formative pruning can take place.
Propagated mainly by semi-hardwood and hardwood cuttings.
Evergreen tall shrub with large green leaves and drooping clusters of yellow flowers.
