The genus name is derived from the Greek 'kentron' (spur) and 'anthos' (flower). Perennial herbs, native to the Mediterranean basin.
They grow in full sun, in neutral or alkaline, even in poor and dry soils.
Plant in arrangements, rock gardens and flowerpots.
Propagated by division.
