The genus name is derived from the Greek "Dios" (of Zeus) and "anthos" (flower). It contains about 300 species of annual and perennial, evergreen plants, some of which are grown for their often fragrant flowers or for their foliage. Used for cut flowers.
They grow in full sun, in moderately moist, neutral or alkaline soils.
Plant in borders, flowerpots and gardens.
Mostly propagated by cuttings. Annual are propagated by seeds.
