Genus of spherical or barrel cacti that take their name from the Greek word "Echinos" (spiny) and the word cactus. Mostly native to Mexico.
Latin name: Echinocactus grusonii
They grow in full sun, in dry, sandy soils.
Plant in rock gardens and flowerpots.
Propagated by seeds.
Main variety of the genus. Spherical cactus with very sharp spines and a single, ribbed stem. Yellow flowers on the crown of the plant appear in summer.
