The name Encephalartos is derived from the Greek "kephali" meaning head and "artos" meaning bread. Evergreen, fern-like plant that features pinnate, glossy, pinnae that taper to accute tips and a strong central trunk. It is very similar to a palm tree. Native to Africa. Grows in full sun and warm climates, in dry, slightly acid soils. Plant in containers and move indoors in a well-lit area in winter. Propagated by seeds or by removing suckers from the parent plant.
