Genus of evergreen, perennial plants, native to tropical South America.
Latin name: Neoregelia carolinae "Meyendorffii"
They feature leathery leaves, tipped with a terminal spine, that grow in rosettes. Inflorescences are nested in the center of the plant, surrounded by the leaves, the uppermost of which are red at the base.
They either grow from the ground or grow as epiphytes in partly shaded sites.
Plant in flowerpots.
