Genus of more than 200 species of cacti, native to central America. Most of the species feature spherical and flattened stems. They bear funnel-shaped flowers in summer. Certain species bear edible flowers (prickly pears).
Latin name: Opuntia lindheimeri
They grow in sandy, neutral or alkaline, dry soils and prefer full sun and warm climates.
Plant in rock gardens and flowerpots. Suitable for coastal planting.
Propagated by cuttings.
