The genus name is derived from the Greek "osto", bone and "sperma", seed, referring to the bone-hard seeds. Annual and perennial plants with daisy-shaped flowers for which they are grown. It has an exceptionally long flowering period, from early spring to autumn, or even year round.
They grow in tropical or subtropical climates, in full sun and in light and free-drained soils. In colder climates they are grown as annuals.
Plant in groups, in flowerpots and gardens. Suitable for coastal planting.
Easily propagated by cuttings.
